Prize Presentation Evening 2009

Review [Top]

Despite a slight hiccup at the start with the delayed opening of the bar (just made the first drink taste better) the presentation evening got underway in fine style, lead by a DJ who seemed to combine the best bits of Timmy Mallet and Ray Vaughan (Phoenix Nights).

The DJ also put in a turn as Gok Wan by managing to get a number of ladies to start undressing themselves with very little encouragement. Ok so it was only an earring, a left sock and a shoe but impressive all the same...

Club Mark AwardAfter a brief introduction from Rob the awards where handed out in earnest and announced by our President Geoff McCall.

Nick Robinson of Sport England passed on the junior awards, with each recipient photographed by Graham Fletcher. The award for 'Least Bashful' must go to James Fradley and 'Most Bashful' to any of the girls! Nick also formally awarded the club its 'Club mark' certificate in recognition of the club's status.

Bryan Dale & U13 Girls XC TeamNext up to present the senior awards was Bryan Dale. After a speech about the virtues of patience, perseverance and self belief, three key qualities for any athlete of any standard, he duly handed out the awards before the presentations were wrapped up and the buffet commenced. And a fine arrangement it was too - cheers Belinda & Julie!

KaraokeFollowing the buffet and the raffle the action returned to the dance floor which was soon full with many happy kids (and Wendy) dancing the night away with a bit of Karaoke to boot. Star of the Karaoke was undoubtedly the youngest member of the Blount family who stole the show with a word perfect Abba rendition.

Now for the "thank you's"! Thanks to all those involved in organising the hall (George), the DJ & trophies (Rob & Rebecca), the food (Belinda and Julie) and the raffle (Charles ably assisted by Sam!) - your efforts are much appreciated by all. Apologies if anybody has been missed? Thank you also to Wendy & Simon for looking after the senior men's trophies!

Thanks must also go to our special guests Nick Robinson and Bryan Dale who took time out to attend the event and present the awards.

Until next year...
