Competing

We encourage runners to compete in races, they are a great way of providing you with a goal to strive for. As a club we compete in many different leagues across Staffordshire and the Midlands.

In the summer season we compete in the Midlands Track & Field League and the Heart of England Track & Field League. It’s open to under 17’s and under 20’s juniors, as well as senior athletes. The club pays the entry fees to these Track and Field events for club members who are UK Athletics affiliated. Also throughout the year senior runners compete in the North Staffs Road Runners League, which is a league of 20 road races across Staffordshire. More details on the NSRRA league can be found on their website www.nsrra.org.uk

In the winter season seniors compete in three cross country leagues. The North Staffs Cross Country League, The Birmingham and District Cross Country League and The Midland Ladies Cross Country League.  The club pays affiliated members entry fees for these cross country races which are great fun, especially as you are competing as part of a team. The current season’s fixtures are on our website and Club Facebook and we want to get as many members as possible to attend. We also take part in the Staffordshire County Cross Country Championships, the Midlands Cross Country Championships and the highlight of the club year, the National Cross Country Championships (which often involve a club weekend away)

During the winter season our junior athletes compete for the club in the North Staffs Cross Country League, the Staffordshire, Midlands and National Cross Country Championships. Many of our Junior and Senior athletes are also selected to compete for Staffordshire at the Inter-County Cross Country fixtures and for Staffordshire Schools at the English Schools Cross Country Championships.

In the summer season junior athletes compete in the Heart of England Track & Field League. Our under 17 and under 20 athletes, Seniors and Veterans also compete in the Midlands Track & Field League.

The club hosts two races, the Newcastle 10k in September and the Dales Dash in December.

In September we have the annual Andy Webster Memorial 5k race in memory of a great friend of the club. It’s a limp wrist race where the winner is the runner who runs closest to their predicted finish time. No watches allowed!!
