Long run Sunday

Monday and Wednesday nights we have different paced groups leaving the club for approximately an hour’s worth of running.  The clubs senior runners lead two main paced groups, one group running between 6-7 miles at 8-9 minute mile pace and the other running 5-6 miles at 9-11 minute mile pace.  If you feel you’re between two different paced groups, we will always encourage you to run with the quicker group as it will help your involvement as a runner.  The groups always run together and no one is left running alone at the back.  All our running routes contain smaller and larger loops should runners wish to do a few miles more or a few miles less.

On Tuesday and Thursday nights we have coached sessions for senior runners.  Tuesday at 5:30pm there is a track session coached by Michelle Buckle for senior runners.  Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6:30pm are coached by Martin Bailey which are a mix of hills, speed and endurance sessions. Under 15 and under 17 juniors are also coached in this group by invitation.

Junior training takes place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, commencing at 6:30pm. The Junior Coaching team consists of Julia Bailey, Wendy Fradley, Vic Bevington, Martin Bailey and Malcolm Hackney (who is also the Junior Coaching Coordinator). Juniors are coached in throws, jumps and running disciplines, with the latter including sprint and endurance running. During January, juniors have the opportunity to compete in the Endurance Awards scheme and during July and August juniors take part in Athletics Skills Awards scheme.

On Saturday morning many Newcastle runners take part in Hanley parkrun.  It starts at 9am at Hanley Park, further details on parkrun can be found at http://www.parkrun.org.uk/hanley  As a club we host two parkrun takeovers each year where the club provides all the volunteers for the parkrun

On Sunday morning members often organise their own long runs across Newcastle.  Speak to one of the senior runners and we can point towards a few groups

On the last Monday of the month we have our 31/29 run, where the whole club runs together and there’s our monthly Wednesday chippy tea night.
