A very small team traveled down to Hereford to represent the club at Sundays third Midland Track and Field League fixture. After the first two fixtures we were in fourth position but the lack of athletes available on Sunday made it extremely unlikely that we could push on into the top two and aim for promotion.
Six of our team were U/20 whilst the other seven are all veterans, and with such a small team everyone had to race rather than going for a PB in every event, despite this there were some excellent performances and lots of Personal/Seasons Bests.
William Lovatt finished as 4th A in the 100m in a new PB of 12.6 seconds, 4th A in the 200m in 26.2 seconds and 5th B in the Long Jump with 4.17metres. Adam Fradley was 4th B in the 100m in 15.8 seconds, 2nd B in the 400m in a new PB of 59.3 seconds and 8th in the 800m A race in 2.37.6 mins. Jacob Droogmans was 3rd B in the 200m in 26.5 seconds, 7th A in the 400m in 64.6 seconds and 2nd A in the 1500m in 4.29.1 minutes. Joel Clews finished 2nd in the A 110m hurdles in 19.8 seconds (PB), 3rd A in the 400m Hurdles in 75.1 seconds, 2nd A in the High Jump in 1.70 metres, 2nd A in the Long Jump in 5.67 metres (PB) and 2nd A in the Triple Jump in 11.95 metres. Rebecca Twardochleb was 6th A in the 100m in 14.8 seconds (PB), 5th A in the 200m in 30.0 seconds (PB), 2nd A in the 800m in 2.25.9 mins (PB) and 2nd A in the 3000m in 11.03.9 mins (SB). Sophie Goodfellow was 3rd B in the 200m in 29.8 seconds, 5th A in the 400m in 82.3 secs, 2nd A in the 1500m in 5.26.1 mins and 3rd A in the 400m Hurdles in 86.1 seconds. William, Jacob and Adam also gave Martin Bailey enough of a lead in the 4x100m relay that they finished in 6th position in 58.5 seconds.
Rachel Wakefield achieved 4 PB’s during her 7 events, Rachel was 5th B in the 100m in 19,2 seconds (PB), 4th B in the 400m in 86.8 seconds (SB), 2nd B in the 1500m in 6.18.1 mins, 1st B in the 3000m in 112..58.6 mins (PB), 5th B in the Long Jump in 2.57 metres, 5th B in the Discus in 10.64 metres (PB), 5th B in the Javelin in 9.41 metres (PB). Thank you very much to everyone that came, competed and officiated, provisionally we finished in 5th position on the day. We say it after every fixture but we do need more people to come and take part in the final fixture due to be held at Tamworth on Sunday 7th August as three of this team are away on holidays. Remember there is no charge – the club pays for membership to the league. There is a really nice relaxed atmosphere in the league where everyone is made welcome and every performance is valued. If you are injured or unsure about competing please volunteer to be an official as you can also gain the club valuable points!
