We had one U/17 mens team and 4 U/17 Women (1 full team 3 and a 1st leg runner in the next team) taking part in Saturdays National Road Relay Championships held at a wet and chilly Sutton Park. The juniors definitely had the worst of the days conditions with the steady rain being in stark contrast to the sunshine and high temperatures of two weeks previously. Competing over exactly the same 3.88 km route as at the Midland Championships our Juniors took on the very best athletes from across the country and were also trying to beat their own times from two weeks ago.
In the U/17 Women’s race we had 4 athletes competing and in one team we had Nadine Tomkinson, Elizabeth Clarkson and Misha Twardochleb, whilst Scarlett Cotton had a solo run on first leg. Nadine had run 15:35 last time out but improved by 20 seconds to 15:15 to bring the team back in 30th, Scarlett ran 16:22 knocking 23 seconds off her time and coming in 45th on the first leg. Next up was Lizzie who ran a time of 15:56 and move the team up to 24th position. Our final leg runner was Misha who ran 15:53 (12 seconds quicker) to bring our U/17 Women home as the 21st team in the country. Well done to all four athletes, great running.
In the U/17 Mens race we had Lewis Nagington, Elliot Smith and Thomas Mogg again competing as a team. Lewis was on first leg and came back in 24th place in 12:40 (6 seconds quicker), Elliot showed he’s regaining his form running 34 seconds quicker than last time to record 14:49 and moving the team into 50th position. Our final leg runner was Tom, and he too ran quicker, knocking 3 seconds of his time to record 16:35 and bring our U/17 Mens team home in 56th position. Great running from all our U/17 Men who were up against fantastic opposition.
