A MASSIVE turnout of 71 club members and another 25+ coaches/parents/supporters travelled to the county show ground at Stafford to take part in the replacement for the ever popular Shugborough Relays, The Showground Relays. The brand new course of wide tarmac paths, short grass and hard packed ground looked great in the early evening sunshine and 300+ teams from across the midlands took on the challenge of running 4×2 miles. We had a total of 18 teams in the various categories, from a boys team with combined ages of less than 52 years to a Ladies Super Veteran team with a combined age of over 200 years.
The start of the first leg sees each teams first runner set off and its always quite a sight seeing the adults and juniors racing side by side over the two mile lap. This is repeated throughout the event which creates a competitive but friendly atmosphere. As usual their was some fantastic racing and great performances from our club members – all cheered on loudly from various vantage points around the looping course.
On the first leg our first three members home were Juniors, Jacob (10.35), closely followed by Lewis (10.50) and Jordan (running 11.06 on his first leg of the evening). Tim T was the first senior back (in 11:03) followed by Mark (12.42), Tom (12.45), Grace (13.06), Nathan (13.23), Lyndsey (13.39), Amelia (13.52), Kevin (14.04), Beatrice (14.10), Will (14.14), Amy (15.28), Maxine (16.25), Rebecca (16.43), Belinda (17.11) and Claudia (19.48).
Second leg runners; Bruce (11.17), Becky (12.05), Jon (12.23), Louis (12.28), Rob (12.37), Elliott (12.55), Scarlett (13.47), Kayleigh (14.05), Rachel (14.09), Gayle (14.13), Harriet (14.25), Paul A (15.10), Ian (15.48), Lynne (15.53), Lisa H (16.06), Lisa O (16.08), Poppy (16.22) and Steph (19.24).
Third leg runners; Dave (12.20), Mark C (12.24), Misha (12.34), Lizzie (12.49), Colin (12.56), Andrew (13.00), Carey (13.24), Callum (13.27), Paul W (14.02), Hannah (14.15), Holly N (14.32), Vicki (15.18), Charlie (15.31), Zara (15.42), Sara (17.02), Deb (17.37), Claire L (18.55) and Holly C (19.06).
Fourth leg runners; Neil (11.21), Jordan (on his second leg 11.42), Tim S (12.04), Martin (12.32), Chris (12.39), Nick (13.13), Tyler (13.33), Jess (13.45), Nadine (14.27), Amanda (15.17), Mathilde (15.42), Darren (15.44), Helen (15.51), Sue (15.55), Jacki (16.21), Claire T (17.15), Lesley (19.23) and Julia (21.23).
Congratulations to our Family Team of Jordan, Gayl, Holly and Chris won their category and there were second places for the Ladies Vet Team 1 of Lyndsey, Rachel, Carey and Amanda, and the Mixed Team of Jacob, Becky, Misha and Jordan. There were third places to the Ladies Super Vets Team of Belinda, Lynne, Sara and Lesley, and the Girls under 64 Team of Grace, Scarlett, Lizzie and Nadine.
