National Road Relay Championships – Saturday 7th October 2017

We had 10 U/20, Senior and Vet ladies representing the club at the National Road Relays Championships held at Sutton Park on Saturday.

In one team we had Rachel Wakefield, Lucy Matthews, Carey Dyer and Gemma Woodcock. In the next team we had Hannah Jones., Amy Whitehurst, Susan Twardochleb and Lisa Hawkins. In a third team we had Nicola Brownsword and Vicki Stevens. The ladies raced over the same course as used two weeks ago at the Midlands relays which was 4 x 4.33km. This race sees athletes and clubs from across the country go head to head, with Olympians rubbing shoulders with Parkrunners, and also gives those who competed a couple of weeks ago a chance to improve on their time.

The first leg saw Hannah running 19:47, Rachel close behind in 20:03 (an improvement of 56 seconds) and Nicola with 23:45 (62 seconds quicker than at the Midlands champs). On leg 2 we had U/20 Lucy Matthews running our fastest leg in 17:33, Amy running 22:11 and Vicki 21:12. Nicola and Vicki didn’t have a complete team and finished at that point in 101st position. Next on leg 3 we had Carey running our second fastest leg in 18:52 and Sue running 21:07 (57 seconds quicker than 2 weeks ago). On the final leg Gemma Woodcock ran 20:51 to bring the team home in 70th position and Lisa ran 22:38 (a whole 63 seconds quicker) to bring that team home in 83rd position.

Well done to all 10 ladies who competed for the club in this national competition, we were the only local team to compete! Early notice that the 6 Stage Spring Relays are due to be held on Saturday 7th April 2018. Thanks to Rachel Wakefield for the photos.

Our juniors also competed and their race report can be found HERE
